Katie & Roger planned an intimate, intentional destination wedding weekend with their favorite people in one of their favorite places in the world. The site of the ceremony and pre-wedding festivities was the family cabin--a place of family legacy built nearly 75 years by Katie's great grandfather. The celebrations kicked off with Katie’s mom sharing the history of the cabin, a site that is so special and has held so much magic for their family, and welcoming everyone who was there who know also has a shared part in that magic. 

The touches of those who have gone before them were woven through the entire weekend. The cabin and it’s special touches from Katie’s grandfather. Her grandmother’s writing on the map framed on the wall. Roger’s late father’s Bible that was read from during the ceremony. The rehearsal dinner styled around their favorite ritual of cooking Italian food for dinner. The vanity that Katie watched her grandmother get ready at as a little girl, where Katie sat on her wedding day. The close friends who lent their boat and transported Katie and Roger to the reception.

But as always, what truly made this wedding so special was a time to be present with everyone. These families have known loss and heartache. And as Katie's dad said in his toast, "Sometimes life is a shitshow--'and that is WHY we show up with love as an action'" (second half paraphrased by me). 

Sometimes life is a shitshow. But it is also beautiful and full of love and joy. And that is WHY we have a wedding, and why celebrating and creating these incredible memories together matters.
