I hope everyone is excited about this post as I am! 🙂 Get ready for a LOT of pictures from these candid family photos in Charleston…and this is only part one! I already gushed about how thrilled we’ve been to have the opportunity to photograph the Jones family as their family grows in their sneak peek post. We seriously adored every single minute of their session. Between the series of sessions we did with the Richmond family, and our session with the Jones family, we’ve discovered that we love and are so incredibly inspired by these kind of unstructured sessions. It’s just real life, which is completely beautiful…messes and all! It’s raw, and it’s real, and knowing that a family trusts us enough to be themselves while we happen to be there with our cameras is the highest compliment. So thankful for these families giving us the opportunity to do something we love!

The Jones family lives near Columbia, SC, and when we were planning our trip to Charleston, I decided to contact them to see if they wanted to do some updated family photos (since the last time we photographed them, they were a family of three!). As we were working out details for the session, I asked Brittney some of the things she wanted to most remember about this time in their family’s life. One of the things she mentioned was how Eyan, at almost two years old, was so into exploring and discovering things. He is extremely inquisitive and independent, and we definitely saw a ton of that during our session! So cute. And Iyla’s beautiful blue eyes, and her sweet personality that is just starting to show itself (especially when she has a little bit of space from her older brother!) was pretty much the most adorable thing ever 🙂

I think one of the things I loved most about this session was how Chris and Brittney just went with the flow. Eyan wants to play in the fountain? No problem! Time for a milkshake break? Great idea! Iyla is not a fan of the cold water? All good! It was entirely laid back and absolutely perfect 🙂 So…here are some of our favorites from the first half our session, which took place in the Waterfront Park area of Charleston:

Love these! Eyan was pointing at a squirrel, which then ran up into a tree

Love this image Chris captured of Eyan standing in his papa’s shadow

This image cracks me up! Talk about real life-balancing a baby and a very active toddler!

Brittney and Chris-you all have the most adorable family, and we feel so blessed to know you!

Happy Saturday, everyone! I’ll be posting part two of this session later next week, so be sure to check back 🙂 Have a great weekend!

  1. Brittney says:

    LOVE LOVE LOVE them all!!!!

BEHIND THE LENS

A note from Jen

Purpose and passion and the lessons of over 17 years of weddings...

I'm writing this today staring out at the bright blue Colorado sky, near Boulder, CO where I live with my husband of nearly 17 years and our 8 year old son. We moved here to chase the mountains and adventure and a life fully lived, after over a decade in Nashville, TN.

It might seem silly to say that I believe part of my purpose here on this earth is creating photos at people’s weddings. But here’s the thing. Life is absolutely going to life. There are going to be days and seasons that are freaking hard and awful and the world feels like it’s burning down (literally, metaphorically, in all the ways). And there are going to be days full of so much love and joy and bliss and peace that you wish you could just bottle it up for all time.

And I feel so strongly that that’s WHY a wedding matters. And why your photos matter. And why making it so intentional and purposeful to you matters. To create the space to intentionally create beautiful new memories together. Because it’s a weekend to say that this love (yes, all love) and these people (yes, all people) MATTER. It exists. It is real. And it’s worth celebrating the f*** out of. In a radical defiance of everything telling us to be scared and wall up our hearts.

And it’s worth documenting. My purpose in this is to be present with what’s there on your wedding day—all the joy, love, and whatever else is showing up—and creating the record of it. A record of what is true to you. So that when the days hit hard, you can point back at this anchor of joy and love, and know that it exists. It is real. It is worth celebrating.

Sending all the love, wherever this journey of life is meeting you today. xoxo, Jen
