When we create photos together, it’s not just about seeing what is here in front of us today. One of the most beautiful things to me about documenting your story is that you are made up of all the people and moments that have brought you to this point in your lives. This family engagement session at Joshua Tree National Park for Kate and Ryan (and the kids!) was so incredibly special and beautiful.
Kate and Ryan connected through shared loss and grief in their lives. These beautiful souls know what it is to love, and go through impossibly hard times, and still choose to open themselves to love and joy. To be surprised by life, and to allow all the parts that coexist together, hard and beautiful, dark and light.
It was an absolute joy to get to document some of their adventures on their family vacation to Joshua Tree National Park for their engagement session. We explored jaw-droppingly beautiful scenery, climbed big rocks, walked amongst the Joshua trees themselves, and took in the most beautiful pink sunset. Including kids in your engagement photos I think is such a beautiful way to honor the family you are building and the paths that have brought you here.

Kate and Ryan–your capacity for joy and love and holding all the emotion of life is truly inspiring. Thank you for sharing and trusting your story with me, and I cannot wait to document your sweet wedding.
All the love to all of you, and if you’re looking for a photographer to create a record of the joy in your life, please reach out, I’d love to hear from you!
xoxo,
Jen
