What do you do when there’s a 100% chance of rain and thunderstorms for your wedding day and you’ve planned an outdoor ceremony?

Melissa and Adam’s wedding day fell on one of the rainiest weekends I can remember in a long time! Melissa said if it was going to rain, then she wanted it to really commit, and did it ever!  They made the decision to move their ceremony into the barn, and the rain didn’t even a little bit put a damper on the sweetness of the day. I love how they just rolled with the weather, and since after years of shooting we’ve encountered just about every lighting scenario there is, we were able to create beautiful images capturing all the sweet moments of their day. All Melissa and Adam had to think about was how excited they were to get married and begin their lives together!

But let’s start back at the beginning! One day, years ago, Melissa was sitting in the hair salon (the very salon below, where the girls got ready), when her hairdresser, Jordan, said she knew someone Melissa just HAD to meet. Melissa resisted and said she didn’t want to meet anyone, but while she was sitting under the hairdryer, Jordan snuck across the hall to tell Adam about Melissa. They talked for hours, and met again the next night for hours, ending with about 48 fla-vor-ice pops on a picnic bench, and the beginning of a love that would turn into forever.

Two things really stuck out to me after we first met Melissa and Adam. The first is how intentional they are about remembering the details of their story. We loved hearing about how they first met, the day they knew it was true love, and all the special memories they share together. The second is how much they love their people! We heard so many stories about the friends and family that would be surrounding them on their wedding day (in person and in spirit!), and they were just SO excited to celebrate the night away with everyone. They especially shared a ton of stories about Grandpa Wally, who we were so excited to finally meet! And when the weather forecast kept holding strong for rain for the wedding day, their friends were there to cheer them up by saying they would take a boat if needed! Luckily, it didn’t get quite that crazy  😉

On to some of our favorite images from the day!

Congratulations, Melissa & Adam! We are so excited for you both as you start out on this new adventure, and loved every rainy second of documenting your celebrations!
