Hi friends!

I hope you all are doing well! Chris and I spent last week with my family (my parents, brother, sister in law, and niece, and my aunt, three cousins and their two spouses and two babies. Whew!) at Corolla Beach in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, which was the perfect way to recharge before wedding season begins! It’s great to be home, but it’s also been nice to re-live the trip from my desk while going through these photos this morning  😉  Growing up, I saw my cousins fairly often, but we’ve really grown closer as three of the five of us and my aunt have re-located to the Nashville area over the last several years! My youngest cousin is in the Navy, and just returned from being on a boat for a year, and wanted to get the whole family together for a trip. It’s been awhile since we’ve all been together, plus, in the past year, we’ve gone from no babies in the family to three beautiful baby girls in the family! He picked out this amazing house in Corolla, and we had an absolute blast! Of course we had to document some of the adventures we had while all hanging out!

My aunt found these adorable dresses at H&M, so of course we had to take the babies to the beach for some photos! My niece is the one on the left! (Her hair!! <3 )

But the view from the front was not as peaceful  😉  Someone was NOT amused to be sitting at the edge of the water! Poor sweet girl! Love K patting her back haha.

A was SO good for photos! Seriously, how cute is she?! Loved getting to love on this smiley girl all week.

sunset clouds at Corolla Beach

We saw some incredible sunsets from the back porch! Especially this one, before a storm rolled in.

Corolla Beach sunrise

Then the next morning, Chris and I got up and walked to the beach for sunrise. It was SO worth it, even with the lingering clouds from the night’s storm. So beautiful. There’s something so pastel and soft about the east coast–stunning in it’s own way when contrasted with the vibrancy of the west coast.

Duck Deli and BBQ

Drove down the island to the town of Duck for some incredible barbecue one day!

Corolla Beach sand dunes

On our last full day, we set out to see the wild horses that live on the island, but were unsuccessful. However, we did get to see more beautiful sand dunes!

Thank you all for stopping by the blog! I hope this summer brings you many adventures, family fun, and lots of joy!

Have a great week!

BEHIND THE LENS

A note from Jen

Purpose and passion and the lessons of over 18 years of photographing weddings...

I'm writing this today staring out at the bright blue Colorado sky, near Boulder, CO where I live with my husband of nearly 18 years and our 9 year old son. We moved here to chase the mountains and adventure and a life fully lived, after over a decade in Nashville, TN.

It might seem silly to say that I believe part of my purpose here on this earth is creating photos at people’s weddings. But here’s the thing. Life is absolutely going to life. There are going to be days and seasons that are freaking hard and awful and the world feels like it’s burning down (literally, metaphorically, in all the ways). And there are going to be days full of so much love and joy and bliss and peace that you wish you could just bottle it up for all time. I've fought and flowed through both, and I bet you have too.

And I feel so strongly that that’s WHY a wedding matters. And why your photos matter. And why making it so intentional and purposeful to you matters. To create the space to intentionally create beautiful new memories together. Because it’s a weekend to say that this love (yes, all love) and these people (yes, all people) MATTER. It exists. It is real. And it’s worth celebrating the f*** out of. In a radical defiance of everything telling us to be scared and wall up our hearts.

And it’s worth documenting. My purpose in this is to be present with what’s there on your wedding day—all the joy, love, and whatever else is showing up—and creating the record of it. A record of what is true to you. So that when the days hit hard, you can point back at this anchor of joy and love, and know that it exists. It is real. It is worth celebrating.

Sending all the love, wherever this journey of life is meeting you today. xoxo, Jen
