It was practically love at first sight, or perhaps even better. He was the officiant at a friend’s wedding, she was a guest, with her blonde hair and her cute heels. She was there with a date. They were introduced to each other by friends, because they were both teaching for Teach for America, and then went their separate ways. But before long, Karen made the first move in the form of a Facebook message. Which became a series of eloquent (and flirtatious!) messages, then emails. Soon, they got together in person, and two days was all it took for them both to know it was forever.

Ty and Karen’s springtime Cedarwood wedding day was one of the most genuine and emotional celebrations we have ever had the honor of being a part of! The details were so thoughtful…from Karen’s shoes (yes, the ones she was wearing when they first met) to the otter cake topper πŸ™‚ Oh, the otters. Y’all, prepare for the cutest story ever! In one of their first messages to each other Ty talked about how otters made the perfect couples. Because otters, when they sleep at night, hold hands so they don’t drift apart in the water. SO CUTE! Anyway, their wedding at Cedarwood was absolutely perfect, and we are so excited to finally share a few of our favorite images from the day!

One thing I loved about Ty and Karen was how intentional they were about their wedding. For example, Ty’s groomsmen were all people from different important times/stages in his life. Loved it!

“Real isn’t how you are made,” said the Skin Horse. “It’s a thing that happens to you. When [someone] loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real.” –Margery Williams, The Velveteen Rabbit (Ty and Karen had a friend read this whole passage during the ceremony!)
