Wow. So I thought putting out the website (to no one) I’m about to talk about was nerve wracking. That’s nothing compared to trying to write this post 🙂 There’s something absolutely terrifying about putting personal work out there, like it’s got a little part of you in it. Of course we put a little of ourselves into our work for our clients too, but there’s still a little bit to hide behind there. 😉
Anyway, if you’ve been following our blog any time since January, you’ve probably seen some of our posts about the What If Conference, and how it pretty much changed our lives. It definitely changed our outlook on creativity, and I am forever grateful to Jen and Steve Bebb for creating this space where creatives can come together and share and learn and grow. During the first What If, one speaker in particular had a huge influence on us. His name is Dan O’Day and he’s a super kick a** photographer from Australia, and one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. Part of his talk at What If was about the importance of taking time to shoot for yourself, and how you have to practice creativity. And that by photographing personal projects, you’ll improve your creativity for your clients as well!
After we returned home, we were thinking about the things we loved, and thought “What if we photographed artists?” Many of you know that Chris and I were both music majors in college, and heavily involved in the arts throughout our lives. We decided that we wanted to photograph artists, and show how their art is part of their every day life. They aren’t just creating when they are on stage, or in a studio, or in a practice room–it’s part of every thing they do every day. They are out there living life just like everyone else! And The Artist Project was born 🙂 I wanted to wait a little bit to share it publicly until we had a few shoots to show, and we just finished photographing our fourth artist about a week ago. So time to share! We’d love it if you’d visit theartistproject.co and read the stories of the amazing artists we’ve had the opportunity to meet: Madeline, Edwin, Meghan, and Anna. Here’s just a little teaser of what you’ll find!
Thank you so much for your encouragement and support always through this amazing journey! I haven’t quite decided how to best keep people updated on our Artist Project sessions, but probably the best way to be notified would be to like the Facebook page if you’d like to see when we have new sessions to post!
I hope everyone is having a great week!
That first picture is maybe my favorite that you have ever taken… and I have looked at ALL of your photos ; ). I am not off to convince James that we need to decorate our house in black and white shots of ballerina feet.
I look at every shoot as a personal project. It brings out more passion from the lens eye. It’s also personal at the other end of the a lens that catches a moment in time.
