A destination engagement session is always a great idea, especially this Charleston engagement session I photographed recently for Megan and Kevin. I was over the moon when Megan emailed and asked if we could do their session somewhere different than their wedding, and that’s pretty much always going to be a fully body yes from me!
Thinking about a destination engagement session? Here’s a couple reasons why I think they are an incredible idea!
- Create a new memory together: Travel to an old favorite or explore a new place together. Either way, it’s going to create new memories together to serve as a touch point of helping to remember how it felt in this season to be engaged!
- Engage with wonder: Exploring together helps tap into the part of your brain that engages in wonder–which reduces stress, increases productivity, and helps you feel more connected with each other.
- Get out of your every day routine: A little pattern interrupt is good for the soul. Get out, expand, and be present with each other.
So many of the couple I work with love to travel and experience new things together, and incorporating that into your engagement session is such a beautiful way to honor who you are as a couple, while creating some gorgeous images in inspiring locations. As a photographer and artist, it’s where my soul really comes alive–tuning in to the magic of a new place and gorgeous light and the way the two of you interact and light up and play together as you explore. There’s truly nothing like it!

Where would be your dream location for your engagement session? I’d love to hear from you in the comments!
